What it means to be a feminist in 2018

“Educate a man and you will educate a person, educate a women and you will educate a family”

Feminism today stands for ensuring the equality of rights for women in every sphere of life in our society. Be it the corporate sector, family, politics, education etc. The year 2018 so far has been one of the most important years in the history of Feminism. Gone are the days when women were considered weaker, not suitable for certain kind of activities and roles. Today much to the disbelief of the people who oppose feminism women can be seen everywhere even overtaking men in some fields.

But still the mindset of most of the people has not completely changed. They are towards a inclination that men are meant to rule the world and women are meant to look after the kitchen. But let me present you with a beautiful analogy here.  If a woman can handle a family very seamlessly then I’m pretty sure that they can do the same while running a business, company and a country also. The task set ahead for the feminists of 2018 is to change this prejudice. They have to strive for providing equal opportunities for women. They have to raise their voices against the ill-treatment caused to them. The spate of sexual harassment and the rape culture that is prevailing in our country has to stop. Girl children dropping out of the schools should stop. Female feticide should be prevented. The male child obsessed Indian society should be educated that female children are as equal and capable as their male counterparts .Feminists must strive for equal space for women in politics ,government jobs etc. If we go on mentioning the problems that are standing as barriers that are standing tall in front of the feminists, then the list is endless. But there have been very wonderful events that have proved that women are no less than men and the leaders of the world care for them.
In March this year, Mohammad Salman Bin,the crown prince of Saudi Arabia allowed the women in his country to set up their own business and drive cars. The middle east is one of the place where women are ill-treated the most but we are seeing promising results from them too. India has inducted women fighter pilots in the armed forces. Two heads of the state Angela Merkel,Theresa May are the women. Indian defence minister and the foreign affairs minister, one of the most important ministries are women.Chanda Kocchar,Indira Nooyi have proved that women can lead big companies too. The Indian Government has enacted many laws to ensure that women are given priority and safety. Even the great lord of Indian mythology Shiva was called “Ardhanareshwari”.One of the most powerful prime ministers of our country, Indira Gandhi was a woman.
A balanced entity is always the most stable entity. For this society to be stable and balanced a woman must be treated as every othe man.So the stage is set for the women of today to do what they please. Being a feminist now is to propagate these ideas among the masses and strive further for achieving balance in the society.
